Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like typical physical horror, but within Together lies a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for a decade. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the urban environment to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, sure, but that’s largely where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence starts to affect the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building horror experience, blending bits of fever-dream horrors, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He fears the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the allegory never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can experience right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu at present.
