PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
